Welcome to soukandspice.com. We first came to Essouira on our honeymoon and immediately fell in love with its laid back charm and the friendly attitude of the people. We knew we wanted to make a home here and came across our gem of a Riad (house) in the heart of the medina which has become "Chez Jacqueline".

In 2007 we completed an exciting new project "Maison Babouches". This is a newly renovated riad which is also now available to rent.

Essaouira is two and a half hours from Marrakech and is considered Morocco's most relaxed and friendly resort. It has recently been made a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Our house is in a peaceful backwater of the medina and minutes walk from the beach, markets and lively fishing port. Essaouira's medina is free from traffic, and is a wonderful introduction to the way of life in Morocco. There is a surprise around each corner and every journey within the medina is a feast for the eyes; there are children helping their fathers weave cotton, old men and women selling local produce from their bicycle baskets, carpet sellers enticing you into their lairs, slipper makers grinning at you....it goes on and on. Both of our Riads are in the style of a typical Moroccan house on three floors, and beautifully tiled, the tiles made by local craftsman. We have always felt welcomed and safe in Essaouira, and whether you come as a couple looking for a romantic holiday with a difference, or as a family with children, we are sure you will find endless visual inspiration within the walls of this ancient medina.
