'Chez Jacqueline'

We bought our house from Hassan, a fisherman who lived in Essaouira with his family for 14 years. It has been fully and lovingly renovated and is very typical of the classical Moroccan 'riad' style with its tiled floors and balconies around a central space which is open to the sky. There is a feeling of great privacy and tranquillity here, and we love being within ten minutes walk of everything; the beach, the local souks, the port, and only three minutes from the only wine shop in town!

Ground Floor

The ground floor consists of four rooms around a central open area. There is a salon with a large dining table at one end, and Moroccan seating at the other, a typical kitchen, a small reading room with fireplace and very comfortable single sleeping area, and a bathroom with bath, bidet, hand basin, WC.

First Floor

The first floor has two rooms. A comfortable double bedroom, and a kids room which has platform double bed, and built in seating which could easily be used by a couple of children.

Second Floor

Here is the master bedroom with a large double bed and fireplace. It opens out on to its own terrace area with wash basin.

Third Floor - Lower Terrace

Although it takes three flights of stairs to get here, this is our favourite day time living area. There is a lovely eating and sleeping space protected from the sun, and a shower and WC. Most of the year this is a wonderful place to sleep with the sounds of the muezzin, the distant surf and the seagulls combining to create a magical backdrop for sleep.

Upper Terrace

Small terrace for sun worshipping, viewing chaotic jumble of medina roof tops, and drying swim suits.
