Practical Info

Essaouira is two and half hours from Marrakech or Agadir. The easiest route is to fly to Marrakech where we can organise a taxi to meet you (£40) and drive you to Essaouira where you will be met by Abdul at the gates of the city. Alternatively there is a coach ( supratours ) which runs about four times a day (£3.50). It is comfortable and fast, but not possible to organise in advance unless staying a night in Marrakech. Most people prefer to take the taxi straight to Essaouira and maybe the coach back to Marrakech. There are direct flights from London to Marrakech and they take approx. 3 hours 30 minutes.

Health and Safety (disclaimer)

Please ensure you have appropriate travel insurance as there is no free health care in Morocco although there are many good pharmacies. All floors and stairs everywhere are tiled and pavements can be uneven so do take care. We can take no responsibility for injury or theft. Payment of deposit will assume acceptance and agreement to these terms. No vaccinations are needed at the present time. The zealous new governor of Essaouira now puts chlorine in the water, however most people use bottled water for drinking and tap water for cooking and teeth cleaning.

Children- we and our friends, have spent a lot of time in Essaouira often with young children who all love it. There are some board games in the house. We have always felt safe and secure wandering the streets.

Telephone

There is no landline but mobiles work perfectly.

Weather

This is Africa! And yes, most of the time it is hot and sunny, but there is often a cooling wind and walks on the beach can be blustery. The short winter can bring cold nights, but there is usually real sun and strangely less wind than the summer. Swimming from the beach is gorgeous and refreshing, but bear in mind that this is the Atlantic, not the Med.
